Cellular Therapy Q & A

What is Liveyon?

Liveyon provides Pineapple Health with stem cells used for regenerative therapy. Based out of California, Liveyon creates regenerative products from umbilical cord cells and growth factors that may be able to help reduce inflammation in an arthritic joint or promote healing after surgery.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells, which means they’re blank cells that your body can use to create what it needs. Stem cells also have the ability to replicate, which means they can create more stem cells to fit the specific need.

There are two primary classes of stem cells:

Pluripotent stem cells have the ability to create any type of cell your body needs, with the exception of the cells needed to create a baby.

Multipotent stem cells only have the ability to create certain types of cells, so they have less healing power than pluripotent cells.

Where do stem cells come from?

The source of stem cells vary. Common sources include:

A 3- to 5-day-old embryo, referred to as a blastocyst, contains pluripotent cells and may be used to regenerate and repair tissue.

Adult stem cells

Adult stem cells are found in fat and bone marrow. These types of stem cells are primarily multipotent and don’t have the ability to heal or regenerate every type of cell or tissue. Researchers are still uncovering the potential uses of adult stem cells, but they may be able to regenerate blood cells, as well as heart tissue.

Researchers are also currently developing techniques to transform adult multipotent stem cells into pluripotent stem cells.

Umbilical stem cells

Umbilical tissue and amniotic fluid are also a source of pluripotent stem cells.

How can stem cells help me?

Researchers are still uncovering all the potential uses for stem cell therapy. Currently, they may be used to:

  • Promote healing after surgery
  • Reduce inflammation and pain caused by arthritis
  • Treat cancer such as leukemia or lymphoma, previously known as a bone marrow transplant
